It’s about the climb not the destination
“Are we there yet?”
“How much longer?”
When I was younger, I tortured my parents with these questions during our road trips to New England, and karma paid me back with two inquisitive daughters.
When they asked if we were there yet, I would usually tell them to enjoy the ride and that they would know when we got to wherever we were heading. I don’t think it worked. I know it didn’t work when my Dad said the same thing to me.
Last week I shared several resources to help you set your 2022 destination across every aspect of your life, and this week, I’m inviting you to ease your grip and detach from your destination.
Over the years, I found that happy people can enjoy the ride as they pedal toward their aspirational summits. As Miley would say, “Ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side. It’s the climb.”
And speaking of climbing, this week’s video is about my ascent up Mt. Haleakala, the longest climb in the U.S.A. Reaching the summit was the goal, and the view was spectacular because I kept pedaling.
And speaking of pedaling, several have asked me to update our peloton on my total knee replacement recovery. Well, recently, I had my twelve-week check-in, and my medical team said, “We thought you might get here but never this fast.” 🙂
I’m back on my bike outside, and I have close to 40º more range of motion in my knee. It’s a complete game-changer, and now the path is clear for our XC USA ride next year.
Until next, remember to Pause Breathe Reflect as you climb, and, of course, have fun storming the castle!
