You are What You Eat | What is the juice inside of you?
In 1979, the Florida Orange Growers launched their “Orange Juice it isn’t Just for Breakfast” campaign to grab a greater share of our stomachs. As a family, we bought in, but from concentrate, of course, since we were motel and not hotel people.
Growing up, I thought breakfast was juice, toast, milk, and Trix, and a healthy afternoon snack was o.j. and pretzels. It was how we rolled until I started reading the labels.
Once I realized all that juice might be no-bueno – something I don’t recall seeing in that commercial – I got off the juice, except for splashes in my seltzer or smoothies.
Here’s the thing, what we consume eventually consumes us. That is, if we fill ourselves up with a bunch of empty calories because it’s what everyone else does or it’s the way we’ve always done it, it will eventually influence how we show up for our one wild and precious life.
At this point, you know that I’m not just talking about orange juice, but rather the shiny objects and unnecessary worry, fear, self-doubt we allow to fill us up.
This week’s video is all about the juice that is within us. In the words of Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin, “Dis-moi ce que tu manges, je te dirai ce que tu es”, which translates to ‘Tell me what you eat, and I will tell you what you are.’
Which is much better advice than what we received back in 1979, “Orange juice with a hotdog?” “ With anything.,” the adorable girl responds.
And yes, I’ve had this pairing, and still amazed that I’m not glowing today from everything we ate back in the 70s and 80s. Next week, we will discuss Tab. 🙂
Until then, remember to Pause Breathe Reflect and have fun storming the castle!
